Sinister Student Snagged: Suspended for Skittles Sale at School

Many people consider prophecy a huge problem when it comes to being a Christian. Furthermore, many Christians find prophecy confusing and downright…well…unbelievable, because of all the reprocussions and events which would have to actually take place for many prophecies to be fulfilled.

But why are they hard to believe? Does Scripture have a good…or bad track record regarding prophecy? If bad, why would you choose to believe in something which has proven itself to be something its not? If good…why is it hard to believe now after a solid track record? Is it perhaps because humans have a tendency to put God in an earth-shaped box and strip Him of His identity and power? If we believe that Scripture is from God, and that He cannot make faults or tell even slight un-truths….Then why can we not take God at His word?

Well, possibly for some it may make life a lot more uncomfortable. I mean, come on…Have you read Revelation? At first glance many who skim through it may soon be looking for an exit and something to get their mind off the terrible and almost unimaginable events contained therein. But as Believers who read prophecy in context, instead of ‘picking’ and ‘choosing’ what we do or don’t want to hear…For those that hear the message of hope and preparation for the future, instead of the doom of life ending here on earth… We know that, unbelievable as it may seem, if we truly believe God…and His Word in the Bible…then we accept prophecy as well, correct?

For those that need a little reminder about just how weird things are getting (which may lend you to possibly re-think prophecy as being ‘too improbable’ to ever happen…), have you looked at your local newspaper, listened to the radio, or watched the news on tv yet today? Who would have even thought 10 years ago that the things going on today would actually be going on, or would even be considered possible back then…even 10 years ago! Consider this article from a Connecticut school:

“Connecticut Student Suspended for Buying Candy in School

Contraband candy has led to big trouble for an eighth-grade honors student.

Michael Sheridan was stripped of his title as class vice president, barred from attending an honors student dinner and suspended for a day after buying a bag of Skittles from a classmate.

The New Haven school system banned candy sales in 2003 as part of a district-wide school wellness policy, said school spokeswoman Catherine Sullivan-DeCarlo…”

If you truly believe that God is who He says He is…and that prophecy is valid…Can we really reject some prophecy out of hand or try to explain it away simply for the reason that it is too improbable or seemingly impossible? If we do interpret prophecy based on our own thoughts and ideas…are we really listening to what God is saying, or are we not just picking and choosing what we want to believe? And if that is the case….are we truly ‘Christians’?

What do you think?
